With the increasing standard of the state of the art in text generation and the growing potential to use generation in practical applications it becomes more and more important to provide intelligent means for the maintenance of the linguistic resources of a generator. In the talk, we present a Development Environment (DE) in action that is currently under construction at the University of Stuttgart for Meaning-Text Theory (MTT)-based generators. The DE provides support with respect to writing, modifying, testing, and debugging of (i) grammar rules, (ii) semantic and lexical information, and (iii) linguistic structures at different levels of abstraction. After a brief introduction to the nature of structures and rules in the MTT and a discussion of the needs encountered by lingware and system developers, the talk focuses on the demonstration of the rule editor, and the lexicon editor), the inspector and the debugger. Some attention will also be given to the computational processing and the efficient organization of the grammatical and lexical resources ensured by the DE.
