The Translation and Localization industry faces a bottleneck with regard to terminology. The lack of quality dictionaries is due partially to the high cost of the dictionary compilation task, particularly those stages that cannot be carried out automatically, such as concept analysis and the creation of definitions. The ONTODIC aim is to design techniques that support the creation of machine readable terminological dictionaries that supports onomasiological inquiries. Also, we hope to obtain a tool that elaborates definitions automatically. For obtaining that, we are developing a methodology and techniques for the formal and systematic analysis of concepts, and to identify and analyze the concepts and their interactions. There are three big phases. 1) To develop foundations and methodology to carry out the systematic and formal analysis of concepts, that includes the identification and formalization of their constituent elements like characteristics, and conceptual relations, the classification of concepts and its structuring. 2) To design a formal model that includes the elements that take part in the understanding of the concept and that specifies the interaction between them. The formalization must lead to the establishment deductions from the provided information. 3) To describe and to test technologies that allow the implementation of the formal model and the storage of conceptual information as well as its retrieval. In this talk, we will present some work carried out within this project.
