The Dictionary of Sepedi Linguistics (Pukuntšu ya thutomaleme ya Sepedi) is a bilingual special field dictionary of linguistics with English as the source language and Sepedi as the target language. Sepedi, also known as Northern Sotho, is one of 11 official languages of South Africa. The aim of the project is to bridge the gap between teaching and learning in higher education for native speakers of Sepedi. It is mainly addressed at linguistics students and professionals (lecturers, translators, interpreters, etc.), although it can be used by any user interested in this field. A dynamic and open resource provides linguistic, semantic, and pragmatic information.

The Dictionary of Sepedi Linguistics is a product of my PhD dissertation realised during my research stay at OLST. The aim of the study is to develop a model for an online linguistic dictionary in Sepedi that is theoretically underpinned and addresses the lexicographic needs of its intended users. As such, my dissertation provides the theoretical foundation and methodology to the creation of the dictionary. The dissertation situates the intended users of the current produced dictionary and has a high influence on the presentation of data in the dictionary based on the lexicographic needs of the intended users.

This presentation aims to provide an overview, combining insights from the foundational work presented in the dissertation with a demonstration of the actual dictionary developed.
