Alertes/avertissements 12h19
cultures. |
Frost - after
midnight Thursday to morning Thursday. Frost may
damage some crops in frost-prone areas. A ridge of
high pressure will favour clear skies and light
winds tonight. These conditions will be favourable
to the development of ground frost locally over several regions of Southern
Quebec. Weather
Advisories for Frost are issued when temperatures are expected to the reach
freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and
destruction to plants and crops. |

Winds will
shift to southwesterly late in the night or in the morning. Gusts to 90 km/h
will accompany the shifting winds. Items outdoors that have not been secured
could be blown away and driving conditions may be affected by these gusts. A series of
low pressure systems from the Great Lakes will move northeastward along a
trough between the Lower Great Lakes and Labrador. This complex weather
scenario will generate an intense area of rain ahead of the trough between
Parent and Schefferville overnight tonight. A low
pressure system will move up along the trough overnight tonight and cause the
rain to change over to snow north of its track. Significant snowfall amounts
are expected in some regions and blowing snow will develop late overnight
tonight or Thursday. Around the
low pressure system, southwesterly winds in excess of 70 km/h are expected
overnight along the St. Lawrence River between Montréal and Quebec City.
These winds will move eastward Thursday and be locally severe. |
Evaluation 2010 WWCN13 CWTO 261514 ==DISCUSSION== A LOW PRESSURE AREA COMBINED WITH A WARM FRONT JUST WEST OF
ATTAWAPISKAT WILL CONTINE TO MOVE WESTWARD TODAY, ACCOMPANIED BY SNOW AND
FREEZING RAIN. 15 TO LOCALLY 25 CENTIMETRES OF SNOW ARE EXPECTED IN THE BIG TROUT
LAKE AREA BY WEDNESDAY MORNING. FREEZING RAIN IS SPREADING INTO THE FORT SEVERN REGION AND MAY CHANGE
OVER TO RAIN BY LATE AFTERNOON AS MILDER AIR MOVES IN AFTER THE PAGGAGE OF
THE WARM FRONT. UNTREATED SURFACES MAY BECOME QUITE SLIPPERY DUE TO THE
FREEZING RAIN. CAUTION IS ADVISED. NOTE THAT TEMPERATURES AT PEAWANUCK REACHED THE FREEZING MARK THIS MORNING
AND WILL CONTINUE TO CLIMB THIS AFTERNOON. THE FREEZING RAIN WARNING THERE IS
THUS ENDED, AS ONLY RAIN IS EXPECTED. PLEASE REFER TO THE LATEST PUBLIC FORECASTS FOR FURTHER DETAILS. END/ASHTON/KUHN |

Mail 201212_WWCN16_CWHX_010053 AN INTENSE LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM SOUTHEAST OF THE LABRADOR SEA WILL REMAIN NEARLY
STATIONARY TONIGHT AND SLOWLY DRIFT EASTWARD AND WEAKEN ON SATURDAY. A COLD WESTERLY FLOW WILL CAUSE SNOW
SQUALLS TONIGHT WHERE WINDS BLOW
ONSHORE. LOCAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS UP TO
10 CENTIMETRES ARE
EXPECTED IN SNOWSQUALLS, HOWEVER THE POTENTIAL TO EXCEED THIS AMOUNT
EXISTS. STRONG WESTERLY WINDS COMBINED
WITH THESE ACCUMULATIONS WILL
REDUCE VISIBILITY IN BLOWING SNOW. CONDITIONS WILL
IMPROVE OVERNIGHT. HIGH WAVES AND HEAVY
POUNDING SURF ALONG PARTS OF THE NORTHEAST COAST WILL PERSIST TONIGHT. THE PUBLIC IS
ADVISED TO MONITOR SUBSEQUENT FORECASTS AS WARNINGS MAY BE REQUIRED AS
FURTHER INFORMATION BECOMES AVAILABLE.
